A Peaceful Refuge Between History and Nature
Nestled in the heart of the Cilento National Park and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the Convento Francescano offers a unique experience where history, art and spirituality coexist in harmony. Founded in 1320, this enchanted place was created to guard a sacred relic, the Holy Wood, brought from Jerusalem, and for centuries it has welcomed pilgrims and travelers in search of tranquility and inspiration.

A Journey Through History
Every stone of the convent tells a story that spans centuries. The convent was commissioned by Ilaria di Lauria, daughter of Ruggero, who wanted to create a place of peace where the relic of the Holy Wood could be venerated. According to legend, the site of the convent was chosen in a singular way: the friars, who stopped here during a journey, interpreted the obstinacy of a mule in continuing as a divine sign, thus deciding to build the convent in this very place.

Architecture and Spirituality
Built outside the walls of the town, the convent has a sober and fascinating architecture. The ground floor houses the Chapel of the Holy Wood, adorned with frescoes that recall the episode of the relic.
This fragment of the Cross of Christ attracted numerous pilgrims over the centuries, becoming the heart of celebrations such as the Good Friday Fair. Even today, the atmosphere of the convent retains a sense of sacredness, offering visitors a space for reflection and contemplation.

A Life in Harmony with Nature
Surrounded by ancient walls and a garden providing fresh vegetables and grapes, the convent was originally designed to be self-sufficient, allowing the friars to live in harmony with nature.
This simple and earth-friendly lifestyle has remained an integral part of the experience offered today, inviting guests to rediscover the beauty of slow living and the connection with the land.

The Charm of a Timeless Place
Since its foundation, the Convent has undergone numerous transformations, maintaining its essence and timeless charm intact. Every corner of the convent holds a story, every glimpse offers a view that invites meditation and peace.
Visiting the Convento Francescano means abandoning yourself to an inner journey, an opportunity to come into contact with a past that continues to live and inspire.
